How to do a French manicure at home

If you would like to see your hands looking great but can’t seem to justify the cost of going to a salon to have them done, you can learn how to do them at home and even give them the French manicure look which is very in fashion at the moment.

To start with you will need a clean towel, a bowl filled with warm soapy water, an emery board, cuticle cutters, orange stick, cotton wool, some sweet almond oil and a French manicure kit (bought from any make-up department). This kit usually consists of an opaque white nail polish which is for painting on the tips of your nails and then a pale beige or pink transparent nail polish which you apply for the final finish.

Begin by removing any old nail varnish that you have on and then place your hand in the bowl of water for at least five minutes. Then while placing your hands on a clean towel, wind a bit of cotton wool round the end of an orange stick and begin to push your cuticles back (the soak in warm water will have made this much easier to do). If you see any bits of torn cuticles you can trim these safely with the cuticle cutters.

Now start to shape your nails with the emery board and try and make them square ended rather than oval, again because this is the fashion now. Concentrate more on straightening out the tip of the nail rather than curving the side.
