Possibly Paris Hilton and her love for Swarovski glass may have had something to do with it but it is a fact that jewel encrusted clothing has become very popular this year and anything that sparkles is very much in fashion and is referred to as ‘bling’.
The glitter has been encrusted onto skirts, jeans, jackets, blouses, dresses, shoes, bags, swimwear, well why go on, it’s been put onto everything and anything and an interesting point is that glitter no longer goes just with evening clothing it is for day time use as well and there are even self adhesive pieces of glitter that you can stick onto your skin like say a shoulder or cleavage or your neck and also your nails.
I have to mention that one of the designers that has most used glitter in his garments has been Alexander McQueen who is the head designer for Givenchy and he has done it with such exquisite taste and elegance that we should try and find another word for his creations other than ‘bling’ because what he does is much better than what the word ‘bling’ seems to refer to.
All these sparkly things have made their way onto mobile phones, watches, belts, bags and shoes, pens, purses and even clothing and accessories for pets!
It has to be admitted that in these days of financial crisis being able to wear clothes that have a certain sparkle in them is a very good way of raising the morals of women and making them feel special even if their jewels are not real and maybe this is why this new trend appeals to so many.
You can of course update your own wardrobe at a very small expense without having to buy these costly designer clothes and turn out a few garments that are the height of fashion. All you need to do is buy a bag of sew-on glass beads or crystals and stitch them onto certain areas of lets say an old pair of jeans or a see-through black blouse and you have made your own ‘bling’ creation.
